Shortly before winning the World Series of Poker Peter Eastgate played in the Poker Heaven European Cash Game, but left almost €20,000 down.

Cardrunners instructor, Eric Liu, ran out the big winner in last weekends European Cash Game while Andy Black and Neil Channing chalked up losses for the session.

The Poker Heaven European Cash Game brought together eleven of Europe’s top cash game professionals for a weekend of high stakes poker. Each player bought in for a minimum of €10,000 each and it was high octane action from the outset!

Almost every hand was straddled, which made for some very large pots indeed. It was Sammy George, though, who was the first to take a heavy loss. With the blinds at €25/€50, Neil Channing straddled to €100. Christoph Haller made it €200 to go and Sammy George kept the straddle going by making it €400 to play. The action was folded to Albert Iversen who re-raised to €1,150. Only Sammy George made the call holding QJ. George flopped a straight and flush draw and quickly moved all-in. Iversen, holding A4 for the top pair, made the call. The turn and river failed to help George and Iversen took down the first big pot of the day for €21,000. George was clearly taken back by the loss and didn’t rebuy. His Poker Heaven European Cash Game ended after only 28 hands of play.
The action didn’t stop there and soon after it was popular veteran player, Charalambos ‘Bambos’ Xanthos, who booked the next heavy loss. A flop of J,J,9 looked very tasty for Bambos’ JK. However, Eric Liu’s AJ had Bambos in all kinds of trouble. A monster €38,000 pot followed and the lack of a King on the Turn or the River left Bambos on the felt.

WSOP finalist, Peter Eastgate, wasn’t exempt from the loss column over the weekend. Eastgate lost a monster pot to the Finnish online star, Riku Vihreasaari, late in the day. Eastgate, holding AK, managed to get all his cash in against Riku’s QQ on a Q,4,J flop. A king on the Turn couldn’t help Eastgate as €27,800 was pushed to the Finn.

Towards the end of the play Bambos showed why he’s been at the top of European cash games for so many years. Bambos took down a €31,000 pot against Irish star, Andy Black. Black struggled to get a foothold in the game for the majority of the play but the ever cheerful Irishman will be certain to recover his €12,000 loss for the weekend sooner or later.

It was Eric Liu, though, that was head and shoulders above the rest. With over €70,000 in profits, Liu put on a master class of high stakes cash poker. The European Cash Game winners and losers were:

Eric Liu +€70,825
Albert Iversen +€21,025
Riku Vihreasarri +€5,375
Chris Haller +€2,550
Jamie Brown –€2,475
Andy Black -€12,125
Sammy George -€12,600
Peter Eastgate -€16,650
Neil Channing -€17,325
Bambos Xathos -€18,600
Alex Miller -€20,000
